chris korbulic first descent of coastal river in british columbia

Chris Korbulic explores an uncharted tributary of the Dean river. Many coastal rivers of the region remain unpaddled and unexplored due to their extreme remoteness. But throughout those explorations, it’s important to keep in mind that First Nations lived and thrived here long before Europeans ever set foot in this region.

british columbia coastal range noek river sunlit mountains

As lowering clouds play hide-and-seek with soaring mountains of the Noek valley, Jules DOMINE and his fellow kayakers faced some of the hardest challenges a human can endure: impassable rapids and cold, unpredictable weather. Their goal: reach by any means necessary the meandering river that flows far bellow in the valley, and that would ultimately lead them to the ocean.
